Tribute to Macario Prudencia: Maestro of Antillean Salsa
On Friday, October 31, various local artists paid tribute to the eighty year old singer, composer and all-round musician Macario Prudencia. The free concert, organised by Fundashon Bon Intenshon in cooperation with the producer of the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival, attracted a huge, enthusiastic crowd that filled Brionplein.
Prudencia, whose passion for music started at an early age, developed from musician to singer and composer of numerous hits. Earlier this year, his twelve greatest hits, among which Wasmachin, Makai I su salsa Antiyano and Chumbala den bo Bèshi, were assembled on a cd on the initiative of the Fundashon.
The cd was sold during the concert to generate a donation for the nursing home Betèsda, where the eminence grise of Antillean music is currently residing.
